Take a fresh breath check
1. Is a proper daily oral care routine essential for fresh breath?
Dental experts agree that an effective DAILY care routine that removes plaque and food debris is essential for fresh breath and a healthy mouth. A healthy daily oral care routine involves: 1) Brush for 2 minutes twice a day 2) Clean between the teeth daily with floss, an interdental pick or brush 3) Gently scrape the tongue each day 4) Rinse with an alcohol-free mouthwash for extra confidence
2. You can usually tell if you have bad breath?
It's very hard to tell if your breath smells. Ideally ask a dental professional, close friend or family member. If you have to 'test' your own breath, either lick the back of your hand or wrist and sniff.
3. The tongue is one of the most common sources of bad breath
The back of the tongue provides an ideal environment for the bacteria that causes bad breath. Gently scrape your tongue on a daily basis. We recommend using the Sunstar GUM HaliControl Tongue Cleaner.
4. You should clean in-between your teeth every day
Daily cleaning in-between the teeth, with floss or another quality interdental tool - like GUM Soft-Picks, GUM Bi-Direction or Trav-Ler interdental brushes – is essential. It’s how you remove plaque and food debris from between the teeth, where brushing can't reach. If not removed, it can cause bad breath and lead to decay. 5. Saliva helps keep your breath fresh
Saliva helps keep your mouth clean. If you have a dry mouth (aka xerostomia) or reduced saliva you are more likely to have bad breath and other oral health problems. For expert advice read our article on Dry Mouth.
